The Idaho Jazz Education Endowment Offers Two Types Of Scholarships:

‍Youth Scholarships: The Philip B. Garonzik Music Scholarship has been established to provide semi-annual scholarships for quality private music instruction for talented instrumental musicians grades 9-12, who would normally not be able to afford them. See below for requirements.
‍
College Scholarships: The IJEE offers college level scholarships to provide financial assistance for qualified Idaho students who are entering college or are already enrolled. See below for further information and requirements.

Thanks to considerable help from the estate of the late Dayle Fowler, we are now building an endowment fund to help sustain our ability to award scholarships over the long term. Dayle Fowler, who lived in the Sun Valley area, was a long time enthusiastic supporter of various jazz events throughout Idaho, and of the Idaho Jazz Education Endowment in particular. Accordingly, our top college scholarship award each year will be named the "Dayle Fowler Memorial Scholarship."

This scholarship honors the musical legacy of jazz musician, Phil Garonzik and his commitment to jazz and quality music education. Donations that are made toward this scholarship must be noted accordingly in order for them to be correctly earmarked. Be sure to indicate if your donation is specifically intended for the PBG Scholarship fund in your online donations, or, if writing a check, make checks payable to the "Idaho Jazz Education Endowment" adding PBG Scholarship in the memo line.

Box 6892, Boise ID 83707, to be used in its endeavor to provide college music scholarships."

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS:

To be considered at the college level, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be an Idaho resident
  • Be a declared music major at a recognized college / university / conservatory anywhere in the USA, either in performance or education
  • Be a registered full-time student

FIRST TIME APPLICANTS MUST ALSO SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING:

  • A brief narrative, in your own words, explaining why you feel you are qualified
  • Transcripts showing at least a 3.0 GPA
  • A letter of recommendation from at least one (more is better) faculty member who is familiar with your work
  • A recording or video of some of your performances
  • If applying directly from high school, you must also show that you have a been accepted into a college for an approved course of study
  • Complete scholarship application form below

RENEWALS:

  • Verify that you are maintaining your grades and are continuing your studies in your approved field
  • Update your website.

SUBMISSION PROCESS:

College level applicants MUST use a website for submittal of ALL information. One type of template can be found at https://sites.google.com/new. Any free website is acceptable.

Philip B. Garonzik Music Scholarship

For GRADES 9-12 FOR private lessons

Please note:  The age requirement for this scholarship has changed as of July 2023.
This scholarship is open to students in grades 9-12 only

The Philip B. Garonzik Music Scholarship has been established to provide semi-annual scholarships for quality, private music instruction for talented
instrumental musicians grades 9-12, who would normally not be able to afford them.

To be considered for this scholarship, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Reside in the Treasure Valley
  • First time applicants must also be nominated by a music teacher or band director who is familiar with the applicant's playing ability
  • Renewals: Recipients must renew each semester. Recipients of this scholarship must attend lessons regularly and show satisfactory progress, as verifed by their private music instructor each semester.
